Windows offers many tools for diagnosing problems on TCP / IP networks ( ping
, telnet
, pathping
, etc.). But not all of them allow you to easily check the status or analyze the network ports on the remote server. Portqry.exe is a handy tool that you can use to check TCP / UDP port responses to remote hosts to diagnose problems with various network services and firewalls on TCP / IP networks. In most cases, the new Portqry utility is used as a slightly larger replacement for the telnet
command, and unlike Telnet, you can also ensure that UDP ports are open.
Parse UDP / TCP Open Ranges With PortQry
The first version of PortQry, created by Windows Server 2003, did not work well on other versions of the operating system (newer Windows Server 2008), so the second budget version, PortQryV2, released your current version that you should be using today. (you can download PortQryV2 here).
Download and unpack the PortQryV2.exe archive. Run a command prompt in addition to switching to a directory with privileges, for example:
For example, to check the DNS server number for a consumer, you need to make sure 53 TCP and UDP ports are open. The syntax for the command term for checking ports is as follows:
PortQry -n server [-p protocol] || [-e -r || -o endpoint (s)]
- -n is the name or IP address of the server you are checking for availability;
- -e is also the port number to check (1 to 65535);
- -r is the port range to check (for example, 1:80);
- -p is actually the protocol used for validation. It can be UDP-tcp or BOTH (default is TCP).
- Listening – means that the port is open (connections are accepted), an unambiguous answer has been received from the Listener;
- No – Indicates that the target system does not have a policy (service) that allows human interaction on the specified port. PortQry acquired an ICMP “Destination Unreachable Port – Unreachable” response when checking a UDP port, and a TCP packet with a reset flag;
- Filtered – Indicates that PortQry did not receive a response from the specified port, or that the response was filtered. In other words, this port is not listening on target systems or accessingit is restricted due to a firewall or some system patch. By default, TCP ports are requested a third time and UDP ports are requested once.

With some sort of -wport and -wpid arguments, you can monitor this state of the specified port (wport) or possibly all ports connected to the mentioned process (wpid) on the local host.

PortQry has built-in backups for some network services. How are you As you can easily see, the PortQry tool displays not only the availability of port 1434 / UDP, but also the web SQL version and the instance names on the SQL server and their TCP ports. The first instance of DBINVENT targets the standard TCP / 1433 port, and the tiny MSSQLSERVER uses a fixed TCP / 53200 port from the RPC range.

To make it more convenient for users who do not want to use the instant command, Microsoft has developed a simple graphical interaction for portqry – PortQueryUI.
