The Microsoft System Configuration Tool (msconfig) is a Microsoft software application used to change configuration settings, such as software that opens with Windows. It has tons of useful tabs: General, Startup, Services, Startup, and Tools.
4. After successful execution of the Microsoft Vista User Account Control Panel, it will launch the Microsoft System Configuration Utility. Click the monthly startup account.
4. A page with a list of “startup items” will open. Startup items are programs that are automatically loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some financial services programs are absolutely essential, others are memory loss.
In Windows Vista, all critical Windows programs are loaded through so-called “Windows services”. This means that most of the individual startup items you see in Vista are actually noptional and can be annoying. However, it might be a good rule of thumb to only disable programs that your company detects that shouldn’t be constantly moving. When in doubt, stop. Or better yet, visit Paul “PacMan” Huge Collins’ Starter Apps page at http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_search.php. This list of 25,000 additional startup items, which you can find in MSCONFIG, shows you which items are absolutely critical, which are optional, and which items should be disabled entirely.
Here’s a good example. I have a bunch of MP3s on my computer and I listen to these MP3s from the WinAmp provider. For some reason or for various reasons, WinAmp decided that it should always work on my computer, even when I am not using the program. It’s good. To prevent WinAmp from starting automatically every day when the computer starts up, I ignored MSCONFIG and disabled “WinampAgent”. It’s all.
