Since it is highly recommended to have backups of the converted filesystems anyway, you’d better copy everything (don’t forget about file permissions), create a great ext3 filesystem on that partition, and then copy everything. p>

Conversion between file systems is generally not possible. If you have limited space, your best bet is
- or get external storage to migrate
- Use squashfs if you have too much space for the compressed image.

How can I convert ext3 files to Btrfs?
The converter creates a sparse image to store all links as the original ext3 filesystem, and all offsets in this file correspond to the offsets used by the block device. This allows the administration to mount an image file showing a read-only loop and at the same time see the original ext3 filesystem while the converted Btrfs filesystem is in progress.
I highly doubt you have a tool capable of performing such a complex process.
You need to create a new filesystem on a different drive and sync the contents with something really funny rsync -aH / oldfs / / newfs / , if you find out that this is not the case, there is no hard drive – on the left side of your filesystem, you can speed this up by removing the “H” option from the rsync request. If you are using ACLs or other rather long properties, you will need to add the appropriate “A” and “X” parameters (adding the HA and X parameters does not hurt if they are not usually needed). it takes more time to sync as additional checks are still being performed and rsync requires a lot more memory than this option. H).
Another option is to simply restore backups to the current filesystem.

This blog post explains the helpful steps: converting ReiserFS to ext3 and the sequence of commands to run:
Conversion plan:
- Create ext3 clone pointing to my existing reiserFS / home partition on a new unused partition The 30 GB partition is marked with an asterisk.
- Use this new / home with my latest SUSE 10 setup to get Translation correct before ReiserFS / home data Partition. Specifically, I want Symbolic and persistent products Resources are transferred correctly.
- Format someone’s old 80GB ReiserFS partition to ext3, then run second moment at / at home. move Filesystem 80 GB in the past Partition.
This procedure requires a new hard drive. or hard drive partition even if you have Backup & PlayAn update that allows you to save one file enough free space is required on existing partition containing the backup File. But on the other hand, I never erase my good functioning Baffle until I fully test new. If something is wrong, I go back to the previous step and Try again.

Can a fstransform be used to convert an ext2 partition?
It might magically be mp3, but Fstransform can convert any ext2, ext3, ext4, jfs, reiserfs, or perhaps even xfs, in almost any combination to any other type in the set. Most importantly, the house does it right on the spot, without formatting or saving any data.
You can convert any filesystem to any leftover filesystem with this tool if the current filesystem supports sparse files.
This works fine, but I found it to be much slower than copying the entire filesystem to another locale, restoring the filesystem the desired form and then copying everything back.
