Today’s guide is created to help you if you get a noapic error code when the Ubuntu kernel panics.

With its simple user interface and powerful scanning engine, Fortect quickly finds and fixes a broad range of Windows problems - from system instability and security issues to memory management and performance bottlenecks.
Ubuntu works with these low specs, but only if you are using a lower spec Ubuntu like Lubuntu v11.10.
Is there a way to tell Ubuntu to use the noapic option?
Is there a way to tell ie8 to use the noapic option when booting from disk? Add noacpi or any kernel parameter anywhere on the line.
If you have more internal memory, I would recommend Xubuntu (v11.04 or v11.10).
If you are going to use Ubuntu 10.04, this will probably require 512 MB (preferably more).
Kernel Error Message
As a kernel bug – some older PCs have faulty BIOS and ACPI (power management) controls.
The error message indicates that you can boot with the noapic
kernel option. You will need to do this both when booting from them and from the Live CD after installing Ubuntu.
I took a screenshot of another question that was recently answered – just replace the displayed thought with the word or phrase noapic
To view this screen, you will immediately see a purple screen with a symbol at the bottom (immediately after starting the current boot sequence). Press Esc … If you need to “try the ie8 screen”, you missed your opportunity!
If you are using Multimedia F6 , a context menu will appear. Press Esc to hide this menu, then use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate to a location in my photo.
After installing Ubuntu, you will probably need to temporarily boot from noapic – this is detailed in the belowtips.
If you started on a new Ubuntu desktop, you can make noapic a permanent grub entry – if that is again described in the related question on How Home Works.
- How do I add a kernel boot parameter?
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
Problem
- What are the
acpi
andnoapic
kernel boot options?
Resolution
ACPI
ACPI levels for advanced configuration and power interface. It is a system that computer systems describe to the operating system in order to recognize what hardware is present and adjust it accordingly to control hardware actions such as these types of dynamic speed fans, power button behavior, system sleep states, possibly to control processor. frequencies and helps to understand certain functions of the system.
Whennote: some machines can start without using ACPI
ACPI power-saving features are hierarchical, which means that each device that runs “behind” another on the treadmill is often dependent on the energy status of the higher-level device. For example, a device cannot operate at full power behind a standby or standby device. This is due to the design of the material.
What are the ” ACPI and ” noapic kernel boot options?
By default, both features are enabled in some kernels and can certainly be disabled with the corresponding boot options acpi = off and noapic, which are mainly shown below. Edit the kernel line to add the desired option. In the following figure, both ACPI and APIC will be disabled: Reboot your target system.
However, many hardware comes with faulty or incompatible ACPI firmware, which can cause a number of unspecified issues. If the computer is turned off or the boot process has failed, disabling ACPI may help.
Why is kernel panic not syncing Io-APIC + timer?
After restarting the network, this error was displayed: [0.032000] kernel panic-not syncning: IO-APIC + timer not working. Start with apic = debug and post. Then try booting with the noapic [0.032000] parameter. When you boot Ubuntu for the first time, you will need to press the exit key and add “noapic nolapic acpi = off” to the shoe parameters.
The implication of this is that Will’s server cannot shutdown when ACPI is off, because flexible shutdown after executing poweroff
, also known as shutdown -h now., cannot work
. It is imperative to press / hold the shutdown / restart button on most servers that shutdown due to external control, possibly using another external device (e.g. guardtimer), which returns for shutdown / restart. >
API
APIC stands for Programmable Professional Interrupt Controller.
APIC replaces the old type of PIC that was previously built into motherboards and allowed special interrupt configuration for devices such as sound cards, IDE controllers, interrupt sharing / redirection. Disabling APIC removes the ability to use IRQ sharing or IRQ remapping for a device.
Apply Boot Options
By default, both features are supported in the kernel, and depending on which one disabled, the corresponding boot options could be acpi = off
as well as noapic
like indicated below.
-
Edit
/boot/grub/grub.conf
-
Edit the
kernel
line and add the desired parameter. The following example disables both ACPI and / vmlinuz-2 apic:kernel.6.18-194.el5 root = / dev / VolGroup00 / LogVol00 ro rhgb quiet noapic acpi = off
-
Reboot this system.
