Nero Digital is a brand name used for a number of MPEG-4 compatible video and audio compression codecs developed by Nero AG (Germany) and Ateme (France). Codecs for professional audio devices are built into the Nero Digital Audio Audio+ encoding tool for Microsoft Windows, while audio and video codecs can be built into the Nero Recode DVD capture software.
Nero confirms that certain DVD players/recorders are compatible with Nero Digital[1] and licenses modern codec technologies to [2] integrated circuit manufacturers.
The purchased video codecs were developed by Ateme,[3] and according to a good new interview with Ivan Dimkovich of Nero Developer ag, the audio codecs are updated versions linked to the old PsyTEL AAC encoder. from Dimkovich. [4] The audio type codec is now available as a completely free standalone package called Nero AAC Codec.
Functionality
Nero Digital can generate streams in 3GP/MPEG-4 Fourteen Part (“”.mp4″) container format and contains two different videos and two codecs:
- ASP audio (most commonly associated with audio)Measured with 20 profiles defined in MPEG-4 part 2)
- AVC (also known as MPEG-4 Part 10 or H.264)
- AAC-LC (the most widely used AAC profile as defined in MPEG-4 Part 3)
- HE-AAC (defined for MPEG-4 Part 3, sometimes called “aacPlus” or similar characters)
Codecs almost always conform to the ISO/IEC standard, with the exception of subtitles and chapter information. Video streams generated by Nero Digital can be played on some standalone hardware and software media players, such as the proprietary Nero Showtime.
Recode cannot damage encrypted movie DVDs, but is ready to import decrypted DVD images for development. Nero Digital also does not ship the company’s codecs as standalone DirectShow or VfW and avoid add-ons that are not used for general video editing. The product is provided as opposed to a video editor.
Comparisons With Other Video Codecs (2003-2005)
Nero Digital Video Tutorials codecs featured in video compression comparison:
- Compared to the 2003 Doom9 codec, The ASP codec was the fastest of all codecs, but the quality was relatively poor.
- Nero Digital AVC codec won the 2004 Doom9 codec comparison. ND ASP actually took part in this.
- In a Doom9 codec comparison in 2005, the ASP codec was still faster and better than before, but not good enough to be considered the final codec. The AVC codec came later.
- In May 2005, it won C’t Magazine’s Video Codec Quality Award, beating other AVC codecs such as x264, VideoSoft codec, MainConcept codec, and Sorenson codec.
- Nero Digital AVC also won the simple Movie Metric Benchmark Challenge in 2005, claiming a 1 dB improvement in quality over DivX at the same bit rate.
