This is a very minor issue, but over the years it has slowly driven me and my friends crazy. I have ASUS N73SV Windows 7 Ultimate. Every time I turn on my computer, my laptop reports its optical drive. It doesn’t get boring right away, but for several years now, the following has been driving me crazy every day.

I have disabled it in Windows Device Manager, but it happens before the OS loads. I also removed it from the BIOS boot order, and in fact even disabled the disable optical drive option in the BIOS. Is there anything else I should try besides finishing the case?

I removed it from BIOS Precise Boot and disabled it because it wasn’t even an option and none of the concepts worked. I posted my BIOS boot strategies in the original post in case I missed something.

I watched the video. This is an attempt to search directly on the CD when the power is turned on. You can’t block it the way it is, it’s more like “Now I have the power, I should definitely check it out myself”.

The only way to stop this is to turn off the power to the steering wheel, which I find more difficult than letting it do its thing.

2. SOLUTION: Create Any BIOS Administrator Password

This function executes as expected.

If you want to remove boot from disc (CD/DVD) from the F12 boot menu, you must create an administrator password yourself in the appropriate system configuration or BIOS (Basic Input/Output System).

Follow these steps to create an administrator password:

1. Fully press the F2 key to enter the software configuration.
2. Depending on your software installation, you may need to select the Security tab (AMI or Phoenix BIOS) or the Security section (Dell BIOS) in System Setup.
3. Set ADMIN password, save output and system configuration.

Once the admin password is enabled, it can prevent booting from the F12 boot menu for direct optical launch without first fixing the admin password.

NOTE. Setting an administrator passwordalso prevents BIOS settings from being changed unless the user knows the new administrator password.
