In Windows 2008, you may receive an error message stating Remote Installation Services. There are now a few steps you can take to fix this problem, and we’ll get back to that shortly.

Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2008 R2 is handled in two different modes of operation, known in RD EXEC mode and Remote Desktop Installation mode. Remote Desktop Services is operational when satisfied clients are connected and applications are started by users. Installation mode is enabled when applications are installed for use by client users.
RIS (Remote Installation Service) is a server provided by Microsoft that allows PXE-BIOS compatible computers to run boot environment variables from an alternate location.
These variables refer to computers that are on a real corporate (or corporate client) network. Context
During boot, virtually every workstation used for PXE boot sends a BOOTP request over the network. Once the request has been received, the DHCP server provides the computer with a valid IP address, and its DNS server returns the client notebook to the RIS server, which generates a boot graphic from disk at boot time (often referred to as “OS Chooser” “)”). After starting each operating system selection environment, each user must authenticate with a domain controller and then select Windows to install. The source files for each image can be accessed using third-party utilities such as nLite to update intermediate versions and service packs, apply optimizations, install unattended features, and integrate software into your current operating system.
