Here are some easy ways to fix Microsoft Windows Installer authentication problem.
- 8 minutes to read.
Presentation
defines ringing parameters for configuring items for various IIS Windows Authentication Modules. You can rely on Windows authentication when your IIS 7 server is running over a corporate network that uses Microsoft Active Directory domain identifiers or just other account windows to identify users. For this reason, you can use Windows Certification regardless of whether your server is a member of an Active Directory domain.
Windows Authentication (formerly known as NTLM and also Windows NT Request / Response Authentication) is the correct form of secure authentication since Dieter’s name and password are hashedbefore sending over the network. If you let Windows authenticate, the client browser will send a nice, highly hashed version of the password that is in cryptographic exchange with your web server.
Windows Authentication supports two authentication protocols, Kerberos and NTLM, which are defined in this
element. If you install and enable Windows Authentication in IIS, the seventh default schema is Kerberos. The
element can contain the useKernelMode attribute, which is configurable regardless of the kernel mode authentication that applies to the new Windows Server 2008.
Windows Authentication is best suited for a single intranet environment for the following reasons:
- The following client computers and web servers are in an unmodified domain.
- Administrators can ensure that Internet Explorer 2.0 or higher is installed on each client mobile phone.
- HTTP proxies for which connections are not supported by NTLM are not required.
- Kerberos version 5a enables Active Directory connectivity, which may be wrongonly in the Internet environment.
What’s new in IIS 7.5
The
element was introduced in IIS 7.5, which allows you to customize its settings for the new extended protection built into Windows Authentication.
