You may encounter an error stating that the pal dv codec is displayed. There are several ways to solve this problem, which we will deal with shortly.

(Anyway, I really liked that the discussion of video processing tabs for a month stayed valid!)
Larry replies: Diane, throwing competitionflames started with very innocent inquiries, but damn it, the articles are silent now. This is really not an exhaustive discussion as there are dozens and dozens of codecs out there, and a large number of them are released to the market every day. However, I’ll help you figure out what a codec can do and how to choose the one that does most of the work for you.
Capture card developers including Blackmagic Design and AJA, as well as DSLR manufacturers such as Panasonic and Sony, also often create their own codecs to incorporate certain technologies into their applications. This article does not cover any other specific codecs.
But even with these restrictions, there is a lot to discuss. And I’ll think about it with a little context.
All videos are compressed
All training videos that we record on tape or television are compressed. This made it true from the beginning of point – or at least from the beginning of the found video.
Some videos, such as DV or HDV, are often heavily compressed in a number of tips. Other videos like DigiBetacam are sub-compressed.
ReasonsAnd this kind of compression is that many video files are HUGE, and no doubt engineers are always looking for ways to shrink children without losing too much quality. This is where codecs reappear for: (COmpressor / DECompressor for short). The codec provides specific instructions on how to compress a video to reduce its size and decompress it to “full quality”. There are four main goals to consider when choosing a codec:
- Most compressed file size
- Compression speed
- Decompression speed
- Final image quality
When placing a file on the Internet, document size and decompression speed are even more important than the time it takes to compress the file the first time or the quality of the final graphics. This is not to say that these two are not unimportant, less important.
On the other hand, if you are broadcasting an important event live, the data compression speed is most important, because if you cannot click faster than in real time, no one will be able to watch the event.

One final example: codecs are not meant for moving images. BMP, PNG and TGA are special tiff codecs that are also used for still image recovery. They were designed to provide the best possible image quality without sequences of images that could be compressed or decompressed in real time.
As a side effect, codecs are often categorized as lossy and lossless. The lossless codec retains all the original image quality, so the image is always restored. will be indistinguishable from the original. TIFF and PNG are examples of lossless codecs.
A lossy codec discards visual information on behalf of the compression process, which means that the compressed image does not have the original quality of the original image. All computer codecs are lossy.
No codec offers the best of these four criteria. Each codec focuses onmaximum magnification of one, if not two out of four. Of course, there is an “ideal” codec, although different codecs are designed with different criteria in mind.
So many codecs, so little time
Here you learned why there are so many codecs, when Final Cut makes the choice of codec even worse in a way.

final supports all codecs supported by QuickTime. QuickTime supports almost all (or all) legacy codecs, so you can still play a QuickTime image no matter how old it is.

- Apple Pixlet Video
- Planar RGB
- VC H.263
- Video
- Sorenson Video (but not Sorenson Video 3)
Before everyone starts to turn off email, I want toNote that for some applications, in some situations, even most of these codecs may be required. However, for most day-to-day video applications, you can ignore them.
For recording: all codecs that are not always supported by Final Cut are suitable for full-screen video. I have already mentioned image codecs like TIFF, PNG, BMP and TGA.

As you can see, the total cost of codecs that we can use for video clips (fast compression and decompression) continues to decline.
- The first and best rule to consider when choosing a codec is to choose a codec that will often match the format of the video someone is editing. So if you like NTSC DV, DV / DVCPRO – NTSC codec is your best bet. (No doubt use the DV – PAL codec with your PAL-DV video.)
- The second strategy is to go if you choose a different codec to integrate multiple video formats with a codec that is high quality.
- The third rule is to choose codec a according to your final output format.
These rules must be broken. However, if in the past you have started to flip the rules, you probably need to understand a little better what the codec is for.
In general, the quality increases with the size of the instruction. As the file size grows, you should have faster and larger hard drives; Elsewhere, the files are so large that these people cannot be read from an external FireWire drive. A

PAL is a color coding system for analog SD video. DV is truly a video format. It describes the data compression scheme, Firewire interface format, and so on. A DV video stream with a resolution of 720×576 @ 25i is often referred to as “DV PAL”. Field dominance – bottom field first (BFF).

DV belongs to the extensive family of codecs and tape formats used for storing digital video, founded in 1995 by a consortium of camcorder manufacturers led by Sony and Panasonic. DV is sometimes referred to as MiniDV, which was the most popular tape format when the DV codec was used at the time.
