I am very grateful for your advice and provided me with several workable alternatives with step-by-step instructions. They do seem quite complex and can be confusing as I have so much AI work to do, so I don’t have time to go through the steps above. So I decided to help you “uninstall” the completely new Illustrator 2020 from my computer along with an updated update in a few minutes.
After updating I Illustrator launched from Creative Cloud, voila! No error message, I went straight to the file opening site with a “Check What’s New” page. I can’t even tell you how happy I am now, it’s just that sometimes we are compared to a thought, lol.
So, I completed the task, saved, exited and restarted, but there was still no error message. To cross fingers.

I had the same problem on macOS with Illustrator 26. I found that the bug can be fixed on macOS by renaming (or deleting) the insert in folders so that all new preferences are created and preference files are created as well. You might want to keep some files in this version (for example, workspaces or samples).
These are our folders, which I renamed by adding To -old at a specific end of the folder. A new illustrator will be created on next launch:
~ / Library / Preferences / Adobe Illustrator 24 Preferences
~ / Library / Application Support / Adobe / Adobe Illustrator 24
After that, Illustrator launches for me without issue. There should probably be one or more files in these folders.If you need time to figure out the real Just file, rename it and get everything I need from the previous folder by dragging and dropping it to the appropriate location in the new folder.

I didn’t waste time figuring out the exact file, I renamed it and got everything I needed from the previous file and saved it in the appropriate location in the new case.
