I spent a lot of time looking for the best solution to update the BIOS on a Dell Poweredge 650. I had several problems not using a floppy drive and at first I decided that the PE650 is an older model of Dell web server. Since I didn’t have a weak disk to test, I first tried using the Dell System Create and Update utility, but ultimately couldn’t get it to work as expected. At first the problem was loading the path. I ended up choosing a weak drive, and below are instructions on how to boost the PE650 with a floppy drive.
In this post, I have updated my Dell PE650 from BIOS A04 to BIOS A05.
- Download the A05 Floppy app: visit all FTP sites and Dell BIOS phones by clicking here. Find the registry PE650-BIOSA05.EXE, right-click it and save as.
- Start the floppy disk BIOS utility. Now insert the floppy disk into your floppy disk drive online and double click the PE650-BIOSA05.EXE file to launch the application that is highlighted as shown in the followingthe following example image.
- Formatting a floppy disk using the BIOS: Now I would say that you click the Next button to format a weak hard disk using the Dell BIOS as shown in the following example image.
Upon successful disk creation, the application will display a success message as shown below.
Server:
- reboot Now insert the permanently created floppy disk into the PE650 floppy drive. Change BIOS to boot from weak disk, then restart the server. During the boot process, the server will see that it is booting into MS-DOS as shown in the image below.
After the “Starting MS-DOS” message, the BIOS update screen will appear below.
