Anchor-Buoy Plus Beyond
I highly recommend anyone new to FileMaker to keep an eye on Anchor-Buoy vehicles. Makes life much easier without having to think more or less about context all the time. The context is embedded here in the layout of this frame. However, as Kevin Frank reported in his Life After the Buoy article, for large TO-heavy applications, the buoy’s redundancy can be detrimental to performance, as large portions of the graph may need to be repeated multiple times. Many other environments can exist to organize a FileMaker relationship diagram. It is important to be the same and clear for any future that the agency may face in business. As a design company, we believe that the benefits of anchor buoys, especially in terms of clarity and ease of use, outweigh these specific disadvantages of redundancy, so we (generally) advise against their use. FileMaker Graph – Anchor Buoy 2.0 – Bridge Relationship
The Anchor Buoy is not at all new to the community and is a special new concept in FileMaker 7 that was designed to represent a graph or model charts to follow the traditional school model of multiple files spaced farther apart than in FileMaker 6 and earlier. Many years ago, when I was working for another developer, it was hard for me to tell someone that I don’t think about it anymore. To the point where I could see the sent pixels.
