If you check the box to play a video file live in Windows Media Player 11, the video will not play. However, the sound will still play.

Resolution
To resolve this issue, set Windows Media to automatically download codecs. To do this in Windows Media Player 11, do the following:
- On the Tools menu, select Options.
- Go to the “Player Select” tab, check “Automatically download codecs” and click OK.
- Try playing the file.
If prompted to install a codec, select Install. If you still can’t play the file correctly, try the steps in Advanced Troubleshooting Office. If you’re unfamiliar with advanced troubleshooting, contact someone for help or write to Microsoft Support.
Advanced Troubleshooting
Get the installation and codec by following these steps in Windows Media Player 11:

Check if the theme codec is installed on the computer you are using to play the file. To do this, do the followingactions:
- In the Now Playing panel, right-click the file you want to run and select Properties.
- Select the file basket, note the codecs listed in the audio codec and video codec sections, then click OK. If the following conditions are met, go to entry 2.
- No audio codec specified.
- Training codec not specified.
- From the Help menu, select Download via Windows Media Player.
- Click the “Support Information” hyperlink
- If you’re trying to play an audio file, check that the audio codec you specified in step 1b is listed in the Audio Codecs field. If you are trying to play the video yourself, determine if the video codec or the audio codec specified in bit 1b is listed in the Video codecs field. If the codec is not displayed, go to step 2.
- Try resetting the codec type. If you are unable to reinstall the codec, go to step 2.
- Try to play the vinyl. If you can read the file, skip steps 2 and 3.
