Over the past few days, some readers have reported changing the Start menu with the XP icon.
Approved: Fortect
As millions of Windows Internet marketers have shown, it’s entirely possible to live a long and happy life without interfering with the Start menu. For thousands of people, the idea of demonstrating it or making it work dangerously close to botanical territory in some other way. (It’s true that listing your favorite files allows you to access them faster, but it’s even easier to select the Quick Access Toolbar as described in Section 2.5.1.)
However, today it will be practical to learn how to work with the Start Menu list types; and give an interesting overview of how Windows works.

Thanks to the user account function,described in Chapter 19, any changes you make to the Start menu apply to more than just you. … Everyone who has an account on this PC has an independent individual Start Menu. When someone logs in with your primary name and password, Windows XP becomes your personalized Start menu.
Microsoft offers a fascinating set of options for launching menus. Determining whether these options were chosen through scientific usability research or next to a dart board is problematic, but you will most likely see something that is right for you.
To display the basic parameters and invert them, right-click the menu; Fire select Properties from the context menu. The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box opens, as shown in Figure 1-22.

You areSelect the type of icon for the programs. If you activate Small Symbols, smaller symbols will be displayed next to the commands in the left column of the start menu. (You will still find small icons on the right and side of the All Programs menu.) This makes the Start menu more compact. Try converting small icons because your All Apps gallery will be cluttered.

How do I change icons in Windows XP?
