You can change Windows Media Player to download codecs automatically. To do this, open Tools> Options, and also go to the Player tab. Select the “Automatically download codecs” checkbox and then just click “OK”. You can also download and organize codecs manually.

In some cases, the error message includes the codecs for each of our identifiers, known as the FourCC identifier. You can use the FourCC ID to find our own manufacturer who made the codec. Then see if you can get the correct codec from the manufacturer.
If you receive an error, search for the FourCC ID. If a FourCC ID is available, it will be. The four characters after the major “vids:” or “vidc:” are clearly the FourCC identifier, which you can use to find the codec for that particular .avi registry.
For example, if the string is considered “vcr2” then “vids: vcr2” is the FourCC identifier.

UseUse the FourCC ID to find all the vendors that made the codec. For example, in bit 3, FourCC, the identifier was probably “vcr2”. Therefore, search for “vcr2” in each FOURCC column to find the codec company and. In this example, you will specify that “ATI Video Codec 2” is the name of the person (or manufacturer) with the “ATI Technologies” codec.
If you cannot find the codec or manufacturer you specified, you can try to find the codec and manufacturer on our internet using the FourCC ID.
Note. Keep in mind that not all manufacturers offer or even offer codecs for download. If customers cannot obtain the required codec from the manufacturer, they cannot invest in Windows Media Player to play all specific .avi files.
