Sometimes your system may display an error saying that you are viewing the dfs manual. There can be several reasons for this problem.

DFS is an acronym for Distributed File System, which is a historical system that stores data on a remote computer. Access and process the data just like you would on a local client computer. DFS allows information and information to be exchanged between network users in a meaningful, controlled and authorized manner.

DFS Namespaces are a specialA role shrink in Windows Server that allows you to group shared folders by topic from different servers into one or more conveniently structured namespaces. This allows users to have a virtual view of the merged folders, where a single path leads to files that are on multiple servers, as shown in the following figure:
Here is a description of the elements that make up the DFS namespace:
- Namespace Server – The namespace server that hosts the corporate namespace. A namespace server can become a member of a domain controller or server.
- Namespace Root – The namespace root is the starting point of the namespace. In each of the previous figures, the hold name is Public and the namespace path is Contoso Public. This type of namespace is a huge domain based namespace because it starts with any type of domain name (like and contoso). The actual metadata is stored in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Although the previous figure shows only onenamespace forum, your own domain based namespace can be hosted on countless namespace servers to increase the availability of the namespace.
- Folders. Folders with no target folders add structure and hierarchy to the namespace, while folders with target folders provide the actual content to readers. When users browse each folder containing target folders in their namespace, the client computer receives a best recommendation that transparently redirects the client computer to one of the target folders.
- Folder targets are included. Target folders are a UNC view of a shared folder or a new namespace associated with a folder in the namespace. A folder is where data and content are stored. In the previous illustration, a folder named Tools has two destinations, one in London and one in New York, and a file named Training Guides has one directory destination, New in York. A user browsing Contoso Public Software Tools will be transparently redirected to the shared folder LDN-SVR-01 Tools or NYC-SVR-01 Tools, depending on the site the user is currently on. probably sits in it.

This section explains how to set up DFS, what’s new, and where to find evaluation and deployment information.
Namespaces can be used by DFS Management, Windows PowerShell DFS Namespace (DFSN) cmdlets , DfsUtil command, scripts, or WMI calls.
Server Requirements And Limitations
There are no additional hardware packages or requirements to run DFS management, possibly using DFS namespaces.
A namespace server is a domain controller or member server that provides a namespace. The number of people namespaces that can be hosted on a server is determined by the operating system running on all namespace servers.
Servers launched immediately after system operations can host multiple domain namespaces by being added to a single stand-alone namespace.
- Windows Server 2019
- Windows Server 2016
- Windows Server 2012 R2
- Windows Server 2012
- IssueWindows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter and Enterprise
- Windows Server (Semi-Annual Channel)
Servers running, you can see that the following operating systems can host a stand-alone namespace:
- Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
The following table provides additional considerations when choosing devices to host the namespace.
Hosting a Standalone Namespace Server | Hosting Domain-Based Namespace Servers |
---|---|
Must contain the NTFS volume to host the namespace. | An NTFS volume needs to be mounted to host the namespace. To be |
can be any member server or domain controller. | Specifically, it should be a member server or domain controller running in a domain, which is usually configured in a namespace. (This requirement applies to any namespace that hosts a namespace based on a specific domain on the server.) |
Can still be hosted in a failover cluster for increased dosthe dumbness of the namespace. | The namespace cannot be a cluster resource in a trusted failover cluster. However, you can find the entire namespace on a server that also acts as a node in the chaos of failover if you configure the namespace to only use local resources on that server. |
Install DFS Namespaces
DFS Namespaces and DFS Replication are part of the File Storage Services role. DFS Administration Tools (DFS Administration, DFS Namespaces module required for Windows PowerShell, and command line tools) are installed as a separate part of Remote Server Administration Tools.
Install DFS Namespaces using Windows Admin Center , Server Manager, or PowerShell, as described in the following sections.
How To Install DFS Using Server Manager
-
Open Server Manager, click Manage, and then click Add Roles and Features. The Add Roles and Features Wizard appears.
-
On the server selection page, select A web server or virtual hard disk (VHD) of a powerful stand-alone virtual machine on which you want to install DFS.
-
Select the roles and features of the skills you want to install.
-
To configure the DFS-Namespaces.service, select the DFS-Namespaces option on the Server Roles page.
-
To permanently install the DFS Management Tools, on the main features page, expand Remote Server Management Tools, expand Role Management Tools, expand File Services Tools, and then select DFS Management Tools.
DFS Administration Tools installs the DFS Administration snap-in, Windows PowerShell DFS Namespaces Module, and Command Line Tools, but does not install DFS Services on the server.

How To Install DFS Using Windows PowerShell
Open an elevated Windows PowerShell session and at this point enter the following command, where
