Fixed error “dpkg: error: parsing file ‘/ var / lib / dpkg / updates / 0014′” in Ubuntu. To fix this error, delete the problematic file i.e. / var / lib / dpkg / updates / 0014 next to my case. Change the filename to your own. Also, make sure you have a backup similar to the file before deleting the file.
I am getting this error on Ubuntu 12.04 even though the below operation is running.

Looks like all files are corrupted.Do you suggest doing the following (please make a backup and your likelihood of doing so;))
sudo rm / var / lib / dpkg / updates / 000 *sudo apt - clean upsudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

It looks like the status file is corrupted. To resolve this issue, expand the file using your own delete / delete command.
sudo dpkg --clear-status
(Note: The –clear-status option may no longer be available. The phrase “dpkg due to -?” does not suggest a specific replacement.)Then recreate the file using the command:
sudo apt-get update
