This weekend I launched a Windows 10 VM theme that I haven’t used for a long time. Since they’re mostly just files, virtual brewers usually store images if you don’t need them. I use the latest default Windows 10 Boot Template VM when I need a new machine. The web design hasn’t been updated for a while. East
As automatically when reactivating the VM, I ran Windows Update. He made progress but then failed. I re-run Windows Update. I have another garbled message.
Oh no! Not yet!
There are some tips you can try to create if they areThey fail. Fortunately, in my case, the first tactic I used worked. I’ll show you this and then share a few more steps I would take if the update still didn’t work.
Create Backup
I understand this should be taken for granted, but I’ll say it anyway. Make some kind of backup. Before digging into your system, it’s always a good idea to make sure you can recover your records. I have
Yes, I skipped this step. Yes, this is my wounded soul. Learn from group mistakes. Make a backup. Here are some great and effective articles from our very own Windows Sensei Ed Bott that should help you fill the gap before continuing.

1. For VM Users: Replace The VM With A Newer One
I am often preDoubtfully set up old virtual machines with many custom modifications, installed applications, and more. It often takes a long time to start a new Windows image. But if, instead of undoubtedly worrying about updating the version of Windows that was originally installed in 2016 and / or possibly 2017, you can start with a new Windows graphics that recently had the October Update installed in 2018 year.
2. Restart And Try Running Windows Update Again
While looking at Ed’s post, he told me that the most common reason for update error messages is that updates have not been completed yet. If this is a Help stack update, it must be installed in conjunction with the first, the computer must be restarted first so that the next update can be installed. The problem has been solved.
Good Read: Liam Peace, Windows Update Issues: Microsoft explains why the latest fixes broke some PCs. Also, when it comes to 5 issues with Windows Update, OSthe new premise remains the same.
3. Test The Windows Update Troubleshooter
Microsoft Reality ships Windows 10 with a useful Windows update tool for troubleshooting. I can easily find the path using the Troubleshoot option in the search box.
Just write “troubleshoot”.
Since I am working on an older version of Windows 10, the previous screen is displayed. If you have the latest version of Windows 10 installed, you will see the following screen, which can be accessed by going to Settings> Update & Security> Troubleshoot.
This is the current version of the Windows 10 Screen Troubleshooter
This will display the entire troubleshooting window. You should select “Fix problems with Windows Update”. The Windows Update Troubleshooter will open. I didn’t necessarily feel like I needed advanced usage options, I just clicked Next. However, Ed recommends using the extra minute in addition to the races.Luminous parameters. He says: “It partially fixes problems as an administrator and solves other problems. “
Let’s solve some problems!
After a relatively short period of time, Windows Diaryed that the problem had been found and fixed.
The weather is good. This has been fixed.
Of course, just believing that Windows was designed for this kind of thing is never a professional idea. I went back to Windows Update and quickly launched it.
After a few hours, the result was. The previously unsuccessful update completed successfully and my system was updated.
Oh, that could be cool!
4. Updates
Here’s an interesting piece of advice that is definitely counter-intuitive. Go to Settings> Update & Security> Windows and open the Advanced Options button. Assuming Windows 10 is relatively recent, you will see the following screen:
Pause updates opens the cache of already downloaded updates.
Slide the pause switch toI’m updating. Reboot your machine. Since the computer is now fully started, continue to reset the display settings and turn the Stop Updates switch to Off.
If you actually tell Windows to pause updates, it will clear all downloaded updates. Go ahead and try updating Windows again. Hopefully the situation works out. This is much more convenient (and less problematic) than removing the software distribution from the Windows directory, which is one of my next suggestions.
5. Delete The SoftwareDistribution Phone Book
I must say it was probably a surprise. Most of the time, I had problems getting Windows Update, which helped me with my work. It took hours or days, and I had to jump over a bunch of tires to get it done.
If the troubleshooter doesn’t work, the correct first run is to simply delete the old update files. To do this, restart your computer in Safe Mode . You can delete Windows Update files by stopping theWindows Update, but I found that giving up certain activities in the background is a much more reliable experience, so I’ll go straight to Safe Mode.
Start safe mode.
From there open file manager, select folder, window and delete that folder called SoftwareDistribution.
If you’re really nervous about this, you’re not just human.
You can also enter RMDIR / S / Q in the actual prompt, which repeats throughout the subdirectory and removes the corresponding electronic update files without further prompting for confirmation.
Breathe. Remember to breathe.
At this point, restart your computer and try updating again. If you’ve disabled a specific Windows Update service, be sure to activate the product before attempting the update.
6. Download The Latest Feature Update From Microsoft
If Windows Update is still not working, consider downloading the update directly from Microsoft. It would probably be nice to contactto the Windows 10 download page on the Microsoft website.
If you are using Edge, you can download this update:
Make sure you are using Edge to be able to update.
Download the complete update. I would recommend Sa. hammer
