I tried all the steps you described, but I could only find three options: internal hard drive, CD / DVD / CD-RW drive, built-in network card after pressing F12. Dell XPS cannot identify Pioneer external DVD. Can I boot from the internal hard drive?
If you have direct media, please insert that hard drive first (reboot and also press f12, choose to boot from hard drive). You may be able to install partitions on a bulky disk

1) Insert the Vista CD and reboot the system. Very important, press f12 from home screen> Select from hard drive.
2) Vista will start the installation, select option # 2 (do not select the option to install the operating system on the entire C drive :). It will take time to install everything.
3) Now it should be installed, login and configure Vista using your username and everything else.
Now re-insert the primary direct media floppy (in Windows state). This one-time installation will launch the program…
4) Insert Dell Resource CD and install drivers, install the first 3 in exact order and reboot later.
Now install the rest of the required drivers:> Audio> Ricoh (for card reader)> Broadcom (utility and drivers)> Conexant> Wireless card (whatever your model)> Bluetooth> Synaptics – Touchpad or Alps-Touchpad> Quickset (controls wireless radio, then bluetooth)> And all these apps. They will be listed in the Applications tab (on the Download Dell Drivers page)
5) Install all Windows updates (do not install to the latest SP1). There are a few changes that need to be installed before installing SP1. Scroll down for update information and if you see it, disable SP1.

I was turning on my tablet (I only bought it a few months ago) when I accidentally pressed a button supposedly belonging to Dell Media Direct (the button to the left of the dell power button). A screen appears indicating that Dell Media Direct is considered to be installed and the installation is taking some time. I will complete the installation. Since I don’t need a specific Dell Media Direct and want to use my laptop, after installation, the Finish button was clicked and the computer is currently off. Once the car was closed, I pressed the alternative to start. Now, the blue Dell logo can be seen at the very top with the usual pressing of F2 and F12 in the upper right corner, while the screen still displays a private message stating that the device has not been turned off directly and asks for preference if you are using Windows normally mode or want to run it in safe mode.In the mode. When I make a selection, Microsoft appears briefly with a yellow stripe, then the panel turns black, and all I see is a white mouse pointer over the center of the screen without a rotating blue circle, and the machine stays that way. until I force quit and keep pressing the power button.
I contacted Dell Technical Support: Knowledge Base Article – Windows Vista and I have:
Step 3. This step cannot be completed, basically the machine is not running in safe mode
Step 5. I tried this, but the screen clearly shows that there is no recovery area on my computer
6 steps are helpful, this is the last thing I want to do, as I am afraid of losing my files, and also I will have to go through a long and tedious process of installing my applications, as well as their settings.
I have run hardware diagnostics, but these results show that there is no problem with the hardware. When I press the Dell Media Direct button when the device is on the side, it works and I can view photos, videos from the device’s hard drive, or even watch D format moviesVDs that I have inserted into the slot. But when I exit Dell Media Direct and turn on my computer, I see the same black screen and all of our sliders.
Someone can give me some advice on how to solve this problem. Thanks !
