Compare the latest available version with the version installed on the printer.

If a modern version is available, click the link to go to the firmware download page for HP.com.

Scroll down to FutureSmart 3 or FutureSmart 4, find the FIRMWARE file, click Download, click Save As, but save it to a USB flash drive or a folder on your PC.

Select “Open Folder” or navigate to the folder where you saved the file, right-click it and extract almost all of the files.

Note the location of the .bdl file.

The firmware file has a special format “xxxxxxx-Format.bdl”, where “xxxxxxxx” is the firmware initialization name and “.bdl” is the file extension. The file does not start or is automatically saved.

UpdateThe firmware from the service plan is either on the control panel using a new USB stick or on the Embedded Web Server.

• FutureSmart 3: In the printer home test, on the control panel, scroll to Help and select Maintain Device, then select USB Firmware Upgrade.

• FutureSmart 4: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, go to Support Tools, select Service, and look for USB Firmware Update.

Wait for the update function to complete and automatically restart the printer.

After reconnecting the printer to the Internet, print a Configuration Page and check which newer firmware is installed.
