It’s worth checking out these recovery ideas if you get a Windows 2003 error message for kernel mode drivers.
I tried to build the HP Color LaserJet 2600n as a good general printer on a Windows 2003 forum machine.
The printer driver is not installed. Windows cannot install this printer until your system administrator installs a new printer driver. To connect the driver to your computer without the help of a system administrator, run the photo printer troubleshooter and select the option with this important message:
“Current printer drivers will not be of interest if your software has a policy that blocks kernel-mode drivers from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000”
This is HP’s newest employee, so maybe it won’t be long. It looks like the functional group policy setting does not allow me to use old drivers, so …
from the command line to ask me which directives apply. Then share everyone in GPEDIT.MSC and set: Computer Configuration Administrative Templates Printers Prevent installation of printers with kernel mode drivers that fix Disabled
If this branch does not appear in (not for me due to local directives), right click on “Administrative Templates”, select “Add / Remove Templates” to also select the “system.adm” privacy policy templates option (in C: windows inf)

GPUPDATE / FORCE didn’t make me in vain. It will eventually restart your computer and see if that solves the problem.
In my opinion, after rebooting Windows still does not allow installing drivers in kernel mode. So come back to help HP and repackage your driver for this unique moment.

This article is an update that typically installs version 1.9 of the Kernel Mode Driver Framework (KMDF) on Windows operating systems.
KMDF supports a kernel mode of the vehicle operator that is specifically written for use. KMDF driver packages created with the Windows Driver Kit for Windows 5 can automatically redistribute and install version 1.9 files. While the driver package is running, the package checks the computer to see which version of KMDF is currently being implemented, and then updates the file types to 1. If 9 is a newer version.
