Last week, some readers reported the discovery of Site Meter spyware. “Your smart meter stores and transmits simple information about the amount of calories your home is eating. Personal data Your name, address and bank details are not recorded or transmitted from the meter.
I am very sad to learn that SiteMeter, a renowned online betting company, has been offering specific ad cookie click tracking to online website visitors who use, read or hear its services since the last instance. This news is timely for me. In fact, this is what I learned by reading this article on the WordPress support forum.
In fact, no one noticed anything about all specificclick
SiteMeter tracking or cookies before StatCounter posted that “StatCounter says no!” At the bottom of his official blog on March 25, 2007.
A few months ago StatCounter may have been approached by an advertiser who offered about $$$ and asked for spyware and adware cookies to be placed on all of our representative websites … we refused immediately.
You set StatCounter in such a way that it does NOT track your website visitors and does not open for you and your visitors afterfrom the side of ghost marketing and marketing companies.
However, it looks like other players from all over the web statistics worlds were happy to make this offer …
We were shocked to learn today that another well-known number provider allows installs up to 9 toasts in the browser, regardless of visitors who go to one of their personal websites. This means that the hosting company makes money by passing information about you and your visitors to the next advertiser. Not only that, but to further disrupt the violation, cookies remain, which also slows down the loading of the members’ websites.
But StatCounter did not mention the rights to the name of the web statistics provider.
Eric Odom has also been detailed in this post below after doing some research on the statistics of various trackers.
I have several different statistics for all my websites and blogs / p>
I was actually able to confirm for two of my own websites that Sitemeter is sending some cookies to the counters of a particular host for web withaytes. I uninstalled the calculator immediately and now all my sites have StatCounter or Google Analytics.
Today Sitemeter is no longer silent. No beeps have been mentioned on their blog and my email address has not been mentioned so far.
I sincerely hope that Sitemeter will resist this, contact the spam advertiser and try again. Otherwise, users can rest assured that hell can be paid.
So yes, it has been confirmed, Sitemeter claims that it looks like spyware has been exhausted.
What a shame.
UPDATE: Researcher just emailed me some compliance information.
Specificclick.net is a parent company of Specific Media. This was initially spotted by a new Digger who noticed that the Specific Media icon on the home page of Specificclick, which is oddly abundant, had disappeared from the internet.
Another interesting article on Digg indicates that, at the time of publication, Sitemeter has NOT yet updated its privacy policy to reflect the deal with certain media.

I think there are many peoplewho are really unhappy with Sitemeter. I wonder why Sitemeter wants to do it this way. Is the money problem? I think money shouldn’t be an issue for them as they are extremely popular and well served and the company also has a lot of paying end users. In any case, you will lose a certain number of free users or pay computer users.

Even if they start reacting like thatWell, there are a lot of people who have stopped using them or even made them work.
Even if Sitemeter somehow manages to get out of this mess, I chose you to remove Sitemeter from my WordPress blogs because:
Can smart meters spy on you?
Believe it or not, smart m cannot spy on you more than a regular measuring device. Smart meters only measure your energy consumption – they usually store all personal information like name, addressor bank details, and they also have no way of being aware of or eavesdropping on what’s going on in your real home.
These little multicolored logos no longer work as a relatively neutral addition to websites; many of them have been associated with spyware and may actively avoid the directories in which they appear.
I no longer trust the company.

One thing I learned after that is that we shouldn’t be so happy when we can get almost everything for free. We have to check if these free substances are safe or not used at all. And we all need to know that there is something behind it all.
I also learn that if you don’t want other people to know about this, then don’t. Because the Internet is not enough to hide it.
