Here are some easy ways to fix the auth.debug issue in solaris syslog.
This entry describes the steps for starting the syslog daemon in debug mode.
2. Wednesday. The SYSLOGD_DEBUG variable affects the value of the syslog output in the debug structure. The default is 1, which is the smallest output. This schedule variable of 5 provides the most feedback. For example:
All outputs take up most of the screen. Instead, you can redirect the output to a file. In addition, his demon is running in the foreground.
Interpret Debug Output From Syslogd
The first part of the final syslogd debug output contains some network and body configurations:
The next part of the debug output from syslogd should be a summary of the syslog (feature selectors.level) and related actions (where comments are written):
There are 25 copies (0-24). The first 24 columns correspond to the enterprise syslog (0-23), described as part of /usr/include/sys/syslog.h. For example, on Solaris 10, this is:
Installation | Description |
---|---|
0 | core |
1 | User |
2 | |
3 | Demon |
4 | authentication |
5 | syslog |
6 | lpr |
7 | News |
8 | uucp |
9 | reserved |
10 | reserved |
11 | reserved |
12 | reserved |
13 | Overview |
14 | reserved |
15 | cron |
16 | local0 |
17 | local1 |
18 | local2 |
19 | local3 |
20 | local4 |
21 | local5 |
22 | local6 |
23 | local7 |
The number in each column is the syslog level numbered 0 through 7 (also described by the latter in /usr/include/sys/syslog.h) that is specified for the following installation:
Description | |
---|---|
0 | introduce yourself |
1 | Alarm |
2 | critical |
3 | Error |
4 | Warning |
5 | Notification |
6 | Information |
7 | debug |
– table of readability data = “1”>
– The column is set to 4, maybe 5, which indicates that auth.notice is being registered.
– All other columns contain 3, which type corresponds to * .err.
– All messages generated by these selectors are sent to the CONSOLE logged (/ dev / sysmsg).
– Column 4 is defined so that 7 indicates that auth.debug is still logged.
– All other columns contain X, which means that these settings will NOT be saved automatically.
– All messages generated by selectors are written to /var/adm/auth.log.
Detecting Syslogd Debugging Problems May Result In An Exit
There is only one level for each setting and each line. Companies like kern should only be declared bogus once per line in /etc/syslog.conf. To illustrate this, the following entry is an invalid entry in /etc/syslog.conf:
Missing File Output
If file output is specified in /etc/syslog.conf, you may need to read the file before starting syslogd. In the lastOtherwise, syslogd output may show persistent errors:
Debug A Specific Selector (feature.level) That Has A Logger While Syslogd Is In Debug Mode

The following output is displayed in the main window where syslogd was started for debug mode:
