Recently, some of our users reported that they encountered their own sqlstate error 42000 3201.
This blog can be described in such a way that ‘ it uses standard price ranges. Earlier this week, I blogged about the database create command failure. Check out this WordPress post on how we can fix specific error 3201.
While working to reproduce your current problem, I changed the settings and after that I found that the database backup command was also not working. If you rely on the exact defaults for Folders Not Found, an error message will be generated due to the fact shown below. Here’s a simple impact I made:
SAVE DATABASE MASTER ON HARD DISK = 'master.bak'
Sorry, there was an error in the command.
Here is the text of the message shown in the image:
Msg 3201, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Data Backup Device “E: InvalidPath master.bak” does not open. System operation error 3 (The machine cannot find the specified path.).
Msg 3013 Level 16 State 1 Line 1
BACKUP The website crashed.
When you notice the principles of failure, it’s pretty clear. The backup goes along the path “E: InvalidPath” which is an unhealthy folder on my system. The important point here is that I have NOT indicated the path to the file in the administration, but only the details of the master.bak file.
The question is, where do the paths come from? If you read my old blog, it was selected on a personal computer with the value “BackupDirectory” in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Microsoft SQL Server MSSQL12.Highlighted sql2014 mssqlserver
depending on the region, varies depending on from the SQL version, that is, the instance identifier. For me it is MSSQL12 because it is an instance of SQL Server 2014. And my instance name is SQL2014:
SQL version | folder name |
SQL 2008 | MSSQL10 |
SQL Server 2008 R2 | MSSQL10_50 |
SQL Server 2012 | MSSQL11 |
SQL Server 2014 | MSSQL12 |
For example, if you have a standard SQL Server 2012 instance, it might act on MSSQL11.MSSQLServer.
Here’s the registry, it’s definitely worth it
We’ll also modify it with SQL Server Management Studio. You can right click the machine node and go to Properties. Then select the “Database Options” tab.

NOTE. After changing the value, it is usually necessary to restart the SQL service for SQL to receive the values exchanged.
We now have some usage examples. because the standard views got us in trouble. As a target audience, I would like to know if families have encountered any errors due to using default values during the periods of your website creation. Let me know your comments.

After playingHowever, I revolutionized the settings and later found that the database backup command did not work either. If you are relying on the default settings to have non-existent folders, this would be a great error message as shown below. Here’s a simple command I would like to run:
BACKUP DATABASE MASTER TO DISK implies master.bak.
The command completed with the following error.
Here is just the message text that appears throughout the image:
Message 3201 Level 16 Specify Specific Point Line 1
Backup device ‘E: InvalidPath master.bak’ does not open. System operating error 3 (The system cannot find the path specified.)
Msg 3013, level 16, specify only one, line 1
BACKUP The database has stopped abnormally.
If you are noticed, the error message will be blank. The backup is on the path “E: InvalidPath”, which is an invalid folder on this system. An important note at this stage is still that I did NOT specify the path to the content in the command, but the full namethe master.bak file.
The question is, where is the path chosen? If anyone has read my previous blog, it will be from the “BackupDirectory” values registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Microsoft SQL Server MSSQL12. Highlighted sql2014 mssqlserver
can be of type SQL – Change version and instance id. For me this is MSSQL12 because they are instances of SQL Server 2014. And my instance mentions SQL2014:
SQL version | folder name |
SQL 2008 | MSSQL10 |
SQL Computer Server 2008 R2 | MSSQL10_50 |
SQL Server 2012 | MSSQL11 |
SQL Server 2014 | MSSQL12 |
For example, if you have a standard SQL Server instance this year, it would be MSSQL11. MSSQLServer.
You can register here
We are also modifying it using SQL Server Management Studio. You can right-click the server node and access its properties. Then select the “Database Options” tab.
If you want to use T-SQL, then in this case the script.
EXEC xp_instance_regwriteN'Software Microsoft MSSQLServer MSSQLServer ',N'BackupDirectory ', n'hkey_local_machine', REG_SZ, N'E: InvalidPath 'WALK
NOTE. After the revIf you change a different value, you must restart the SQL service to understand that SQL can adapt to the changed values.
Now that we have a few examples, in particular where defaults have caused problems for our families. As a reader, I need to know if you made any mistakes by using non-paid values in your code snippets. Let me know your comments.

This blog will probably continue to be used for common treasures. Earlier this week, I wrote a live site reporting a crash of the create database command. See the article on the website for how often you can fix error 3201.
While working to reproduce the problem, I changed the settings and found that the database backup command was also considered to be a failure. Using any default values for inaccessible folders will cause the error message shown below. Here are just the administration I ran:
Here is the text of the displayed message:
in message 3201, level 16, state 1, line 1
Unable to start backup device ‘E: InvalidPath master.bak’. System operation error 3 (The system cannot find the specified path.).
For customers, the error message is pretty straightforward. The backup is in the E: InvalidPath direction, which is an invalid folder on a simple system. An important note here is usually that I did NOT specify the path to the music file in the command, I used the full filename
