To perform a repair installation, do the following:
- Insert the original CD into the CD tray.
- Turn on the computer

Don’t press R. You don’t need to enter the recovery console, just repair the installation.

- Make sure the installer will give you most of these two recovery options:
To choose to install Windows XP, press R.
and
To continue installing a new copy of Windows XP, do not clickMay the restore button, press the ESC key.
If you don’t have the “Press R” option, you won’t be able to perform a repair install.
- After selecting, press R
- Wait while the process performs a repair installation.
- Windows XP Setup will try to install the operating system again.
- Also, follow the steps of the wizard to reconfigure the system.
