“All General Motors models since 1987 without a four-cylinder distributor and therefore a V6 use a basic distributorless ignition system called the Direct Ignition System (DIS). This system uses the spark distribution method. To better identify the DIS system, first read the above information from the university – note that this applies to the GM-DIS system.
Each of them is connected to the cylinder using one coilki with the opposite cylinder in the order in which it was received (1 and 4, 2 and 3 for four containers, 1 and 4, 2 and 5, 3 and 6 for V6). This means that this cylinder is triggered by cerebrovascular compression together with the opposite cylinder on the exhaust stroke.
Since the cylinder requires very little available voltage to power its market before the exhaust stroke due to the little ionization of these hot exhaust gases, most of the available voltage is used to ignite the exhaust cartridge while in the compression stroke.
An excellent reference for this system is General Motors STC, available under order number 16020.05-3. Can be ordered through the General Motors Technical College Service Directory at 1-800-393-4831.

- ignition module,
- crankshaft reaction ring,
- magnetic crankshaft sensor,
- and the MegaSquirt-II controller.
The crankshaft magnetic probe protrudes through the cylinder block ~ 0.050 inches (~ 1 mm) from the drag ring. The ring of resistance representsIt is a disc, cast directly into the crankshaft, which has notches that the VR sensor can identify as a signal generator for determining the ignition timing.
The equipment uses electronic ignition timing and handles ECM leads in the same way as conventional General Motors timing systems.

(They are large: ~ 950KB)
The crank reactor bushing has 7 stages, 6 of which are evenly distributed (i.e. at a distance of 60 °) approximately 3 / 16 “(5 mm) in width. as well as the depth 1 / 4 (6 mm). An additional notch was always placed in the ring to “synchronize” this module with the motor position This connection groove (sync pulse) is delayed 10 ° from the nearest groove.
- In some cases with 6 cylinders, the notches match evenly due to TDC. Synchronize the pulse mark overlap with 10 ° after TDC for this # 1 cylinder.
- When used with 4 cylinders, the notches are NOT at TDC, except for this notch at TDC for cylinder # 1. Synchronization pulse It comes 70 ° after the TDC cylinder for No. 1.
In applications, the inner tire diameter ranges from 4.00 inches (~ 100 mm) to 6.00 inches (~ 150 mm).
Patents 4,750,467 and 4,711,226 (and cited patents) provide additional information on tips for using the DIS gm system. They are sold at www.uspto.gov.

- 3X Voltage Reference — The ignition control module (ICM) receives the engine speed output from the crankshaft sensor and sends it to the ECM via purple and white wires.
- 3X Reference Low Tach – Signal ground on red / black cable.
- EST – The ECM calculates ignition timing corrections and also sends this information to the Always-On Module over the EST (white wire) line. It is understoodThe function is used by the ICM to help you activate the secondary moments correctly.
- Bypass – The brown and black bypass line is used when setting the ignition timing or when starting the vehicle. Bypass mode excludes EUT.
- Link – The black and red lines can provide a common ground reference that is shared during ICM and ECM.
- The speed sensor matches either a square wave signal or an air conditioner signal,
- Purple and white = square industrial wave, when the engine starts or runs,
- White = square wave with pulse width modulation when the engine is running,
- Light brown and just black = zero volts during quality and 5 volts otherwise,
- Black and yellow = earth.
To use the GM DIS element, create your As megasquirt ® , which you will see in the GM HEI section. To connect a product to MegaSquirt:
- Module Pin B or C – White – DB37 # 36 cable (V3 dominant board, Ignition signal output pin for V2.2),
- Module A contact – measlesred / black cable – connects to the bypass relay as shown on the HEI modules,
- Pin E of the module is a purple / white cable – pin DB37 # 24 (speedometer),
- Stick-module F – red / black cable – ground,
- Module price list – black / white – ground,
- The device also has connectors for power (pink), crankshaft position sensor (yellow-purple) and even a tachometer (white).
Note. Some modules seem to start from different connections (but use the same wire colors for the same functions). B. suitable for some V6 2.8 and 3.1 engines, with tachometer (white) at C and bypass (brown / black) at A. Most of the rest of the wiring (current during VR sensor) seems too constant.
