How do I update my iDRAC 9 BIOS?
Before updating the firmware using any aspect of the update method, make sure you save the firmware image in a location that is specific to your local system. The file name as a Dell One-Piece Update Package (DUP) cannot contain spaces.
- Log in using the iDRAC9 web interface.
- Select Maintenance> System Update. The upgrade manual page is displayed.
- On the Manual tab, select Local as the location type.
Refresh iDRAC9 Screen
- Click Browse, select the firmware image file to create the required component and click Download.
- When the download is complete, the Upgrade Information section displays the downloaded firmware file and its status, and is sent back to the iDRAC. If the firmware video fileIf it is valid and successfully loaded, an icon (
+
) appears in the Content column next to the firmware that identifies the image file. Expand the name to see the device name, current and available firmware version. - Select the firmware file you called and do one of the following:
- For firmware visual effects that do not require a host reboot, click Install. Sample iDRAC firmware file.
- For firmware images that require a reboot of the host schema, click Install and Reboot or Install on Next Reboot.
- To cancel the update, click “Cancel Firmware”.
If you click Install, Install and Restart or Install on Next Restart, the Update Task Queue message is displayed.
- To the job queue. click Job Queue. Use it to view the page and manage pending firmware updates. You can take a look at OK to refresh the current page showing the status of the firmware updatevki.

Can I update BIOS from iDRAC?
Go to Overview> iDRAC Settings> Update & Restore. The firmware update page will open. On the Update tab, select Local as the file location. Click Browse, select aWrite the firmware image for the desired component and see Download.

- Click Task Queue Duration to open the Task Queue page, where your whole family can manage firmware updates right around the corner. You can also click OK to refresh the current page and view the firmware update status.

What’s the latest version of the IDRAC BIOS?
I got a good 0x5 zip and believe that BIOS update is the next approach suitable for this server. I checked iDrac6 (which is currently working) and then found that the Bios version is 1.0.4 and hence iDrac 1.95.
