The Windows Subsystem for Linux allows developers to run their own GNU / Linux environment, including most command line technologies, utilities, and applications, directly on Windows, at no additional cost.more traditional virtual machine or dual boot configurations.
- Select popular GNU / Linux distributions from the Microsoft Store .
- Run traditional command line tools like
grep
,sed
,awk
, and other ELF-64 binaries. - Run bash shell applications and GNU / Linux command line applications, including:
- Tools: vim, emacs, tmux
- Languages: NodeJS , Javascript, Python , Ruby, C / C ++, C # and F #, Rust, Go, etc.
- Services: MySQL , sshd, Apache, lighttpd, MongoDB , PostgreSQL .
- Install additional software that works with your own GNU / Linux Distribution Manager package. Windows
- Calling methods using a Unix-like command line shell.
- Invoke GNU / Linux applications on Windows.
What Is WSL 2?
WSL only two is a new version of their Windows Subsystem for Linux architecture that allows the Windows Subsystem for Linux to run ELF64 Linux binaries from Windows. Its main goals are to improve the performance of the file system and ensure full compatibility with the human body.
Thisthe new architecture changes the way these Linux binaries interact with Windows and your machine’s mechanisms, but still provides the same user as WSL 1 (the current version of high availability).
Individual Linux distributions may be offered with WSL 1 or WSL Architecture 2. Any distribution can be upgraded or downgraded at any time, and you can run WSL 1 and a couple of wsl distributions at the same time. WSL 2 will use a completely new architecture that is far from the real Linux kernel.
