Where does Python and Windows named pipes come from?
This code is taken from CaptureSetup / Pipes – Python for Windows – Wireshark Wiki. This requires win32pipe and win32file in addition to the pywin32 package. I don’t know of an actual case where this is 100% correct, as this tool closes the pipe. You mentioned the book Dangers and Triumphs of the Geek: Named Pipes Between C # and Python by Jonathon Reinhart.
How are named pipes implemented in Windows NT?
• Named pipes are implemented through a nice Windows NT file system driver, npfs.sys, which matches the security descriptors of fishing rods. • Security descriptors are used to control access to pipes. • The Discretionary Access Control Lists (DACL) standard can be used to set permissions for everyone with anonymous login (zero sessions).
