I found a solution that worries me: Ok, I hope someone can refer to my answer:
I changed my password and reinstalled xserver-xorg when I entered it: sudo apt-get fix --reinstall xorg
It worked for me after reboot. I noticed: The .XAuthority info and facts in / home / username have been removed from: Rm sudo /home/username/.XAuthority*
To bring up a shell, try Ctrl-Alt-F1 while you are doing this on your computer. I actually got write rights back using clear
in recovery mode.

I had the same problem, but after 2 hours of research, I ended up on the x.org FAQ fan page, this page explains how to handle two errors like any other:1 – "Server is already active for panel 0"
2 – "Unable to set listening sockets ..."
It looks like the X server is running, you just can’t type startx -: 1 specific and start a new one, you can delete these two files:
/home/username/.XAuthority*/opt/.X0-lock
startx -: 1
then I tried it! my back screen!I was just trying to help hereFor more information, here is a link to a site I found at www.x.org.http://www.x.org/wiki/FAQErrorMessages/#index5h2
