Make sure the backup drive is connected, powered on, and securely connected to your Mac. If your backup drive is online, make sure the hard drive and your Mac are online. If there are network problems, your backup hard drive may not be available.

If you have upgraded to macOS on a Mac, Big Sur will only use this time capsule or other network device storage device as the backup destination, existing backups will be updated as well. and can certainly be used in macOS Big Sur. New faithfully created backups can only be used with macOS Big Sur.
If Time Machine indicates that your cloned hard drive cannot be used to back up or restore these files, try these solutions.
- Make sure you are using a Time Machine supported rear wheel drive.
- If you are not using a network hard drive, make sure the backup drive is connected directly to your Mac and not through a USB portal or other device.
- If your backup drive is probably directly connected to your Mac, Use Disk Utility to repair the disk.
- If you are using an absolute network drive, make sure you have a good network connection and that your Mac is connected to the same network as the backup drive. If you completed a previous trusted backup successfully, test that backup by holding the Option key and selecting Validate Backups in Time Machine Food Picker from the menu bar.
- Make sure the latest firmware is installed on the backup disk. For detailed information about the hard disk, contact the manufacturer after the backup.
- If none of the solutions work, start over by erasing the backup CD or DVD, then reselect the backup drive using Time use Machine.
What to do when you get a time machine error message?
Let the process go through or until you see another marketing mistake. Typically, if you see an error message, please post the exact text of the message. You can watch the verification process by holding down the Option key and clicking the Time Machine clock icon.

Is there a way to format a time machine?
The “secret” to formatting the daily car is to open the Airport Utility. Here you can choose your Time Machine. Click Edit, then go to the Disc tab (see images below for step-by-step instructions (with text)). Choose the custom formatting option and it starts over.

- If you are not using a network drive, make sure the backup drive is connected directly to your Mac and not through a USB core or other device.
- If your backup drive is now directly connected to your Mac, use Disksutility for disk recovery.
- If you are using a network hard drive, make sure all of our network connections are working and your Mac is connected to the same network with a spare hard drive. If you completed a previous backup successfully, check this backup by holding down the Option key while navigating to View Backups in the Time Machine Gallery in the menu bar.
- Make sure your backup device has the latest firmware. For details on hard drives, check with the manufacturer of all backups.
- If none of the remaining solutions work, start over: erase the backup disk, then select it with Time use Machine because you have the backup disk again.
